National honours for Firehouse bakery
A few months back we won best casual dining in Wicklow at the Restaurant association awards. This award meant so much to all the team as it acknowledged all the hard work that had been put in by everyone since opening our doors in Delgany last May. I didnt think this award could be topped but I am delighted to say that we have been honoured with the Georgina Campbell 2015 Natural food award. This award means so much to me as it incorporates everything that we have done and do on Heir Island in West Cork to what we offer in Delgany Wicklow.
When I first opened our doors in West Cork I wondered if anyone would give our crazy idea of putting a bread course on a West Cork Island a go. Amazingly two and half years later we are still here and growing from week to week. It has been hard work but so worth while and it isnt something that could been achieved without the support of all you guys, so thanks so much. And here is to plenty of more kneading and a lot more baking. Knead, eat, sleep, repeat.
Two gold at this years Blas ns hEireann
Following on from last years sucess at Blas na hEireann I am delighted to announce that we have taken things a step further this year having claimed gold awards for both our buttermilk batch and ciabiatta. The standard at Blas na hEireann is growing each year and to come out on top in two catergories is a massive honour and brings huge delight given all the hard work that our team at the Firehouse has put in.
Realbread now available 7 days a week
No longer is there an excuse not to have freshly baked every day of the week. We are now open 7 days. Fresh bread, pastries and savoury treats available every day of the week.
We are open 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9.30am to 5pm at the weekends.

Firehouse Bakery claims it's first award at Blas na hEireann 2013
I am deighted to announce that our Sunflower and sesame sourdough has claimed an award at this years Blas na hEireann Irish food awards. This is the first award for our new Delgany bakery and here is hoping it will be the first of many.
Evening bread making courses at Delgany bakery
With all our Heir Island course dates fully booked untill 2014. I am very excited to announce that we will be offering evening bread making courses from our Delgany bakery commencing October 30th and will run through November and up untill Christmas.
Consider it like a reduce version of what we offer on Heir Island without the need to get a ferry. But don't worry plenty of loaves will rise, lots of kneading will be done and you might even get to use our wood fired oven. Courses will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The cost is €65 per person, which will include all recipes, ingredients, a baker's goodie bag and plenty of baked goods to take home. Spaces are limited so book now. And remember this is a hands on experience so prepare to get floured
Our book 'Bread Revolution' set for Italian translation
We have just got word that our book ' Bread Revolution' is set to be translated into Italian. With an Italian publisher on board and translations under way Bread Revolution is set to hit Italian book shelves in Spring 2014. Already available in English and Dutch this is set to be the third translation of our book. 'Bread Revolution' is set.
Bread Revolution hits Delgany Co. Wicklow
What a whirlwind few weeks. On May 15th the doors to our new bakery opened. And to say that the last few weeks have been interesting would be an understatement But I have to say it has been great, the response and support that we have received has been fantastic and for that I thank you all. It would be a lonely job if we had no one to bake for so make sure you visit regulary. We are very proud to be bringing back the village bakery and to think it is not yet a year since we opened our doors on Heir Island. If the next chapter of our journey promises to be as interesting as the first the next year is going to be fun.
As well as continuing to offer our bread making courses on Heir Island our new bakery, coffee house and patisserie will be offering up real bread and pastries as well as soup, sandwiches and woodfired pizzas. With an open plan bakery everything that goes into your loaf will be on show for all to see. Pick yourself up a loaf, grab a cheeky pastry or simply sit back and watch the world go by, we will be bringing a bit of Island life with us.
As is the case with everything that we do at the heart of the bakery sits a wood fired oven. Lit from early morning the oven will be used to produce a selection of flat breads and pizzas throughout the day before being filled with shoulders of pork, spiced chickens and other tasty joints that will be slowed cooked (min 12 hours) throughout the night ready just in time for your sandwiches and pies. This promises to be the ultimate in comfort food.
Situated on the site of the old Delgany Inn we have teamed up with Emma of The Romany Stone and Jackie Spillane to build a go to destination. Spread over two floors on offer will be a bakery, coffee house, restaurant and grocer, so make sure you visit regularly. Our bakery is open Monday to Sunday from 8.30 - 5.30pm and from 9.30am at the weekends
Bread Revolution claims third place against world's best.
What a way to celebrate its first birthday. In 12 months since its publication Patrick's co-authored book 'Bread Revolution' has been translated into Dutch and most recently claimed Third place at the pretigous Gourmand World Cook Book Awards in Paris.
With participants from 171 countries Patrick's passion for real bread battled it out against authors from France, Austria, Denmark and Singapore for the title of Best Bread book.
